All right even though there has only been 1 preseason game played, there’s over 50 guys already injured.
There’s already been a couple season-ending injuries including J.J. McCarthy (knee), Rondale Moore (knee) and Chase Claypool (toe).
There’s several big name players dealing with injuries and I’m going to cover them here.
Christian McCaffrey suffered his third calf strain in the past three years. He will have plenty of time to be ready for week one but is at increased risk for re-injury this year.
Jahmyr Gibbs suffered his 2nd (likely 3rd) hamstring strain in the past 13 months. He missed 2 games early in 2023 with one then suffered another soft tissue injury in OTAs, and now another one this week. I’m not freaking out yet but this is becoming a little concerning. He is at increased reinjury risk that is about 25% higher than average, especially over the first 6 weeks.
Justin Herbert suffered an injury to his plantar fascia. This is to his right / power foot, and likely a partial tear. This is likely to affect him most/all of the season.
I’m not overly concerned about Dak Prescott’s ankle issues. These are issues associated with his old foot/ankle injury likely and I think he is using them as excuses to avoid practicing and vying for a contract.
Matthew Stafford suffered a hamstring injury today but it shouldn’t bother him come Week 1.
Russell Wilson has returned from his mild calf strain and is a perfect fit for Arthur Smith’s offense. He throws a great deep ball and might surprise some people this year.
Alvin Kamara is dealing with a minor back injury but I’m not overly concerned. He deals with this almost every year lol.
Zach Charbonnet is dealing with a leg injury, likely soft tissue and missed practice today. I think Kenneth Walker could break out this year and this may only help that .
I love MarShawn Lloyd’s talent but some of these soft tissue injuries are a little concerning. Not even for me to fade him at his ADP.
Joe Mixon has been dealing with soft tissue injuries to his legs, likely hamstring. He is at increased injury risk, especially through week 6, but he’s a great value and a workhorse.
Hollywood Brown injury is flukey but will affect him until Week 2 or 3. He could have died on the field if it was a posterior SC dislocation, so it’s likely an anterior SC that is grade 1. He’s really struggled with injuries throughout his career and I’m off him this year. Love Rashee Rice and don’t mind Worthy either.
The Rams are calling Puka Nacua’s knee injury an ruptured bursa sac but that’s not consistent with the video of the injury or the week-to-week timeline. I have enough concerns to not draft him at his ADP.
Malik Nabers suffered an ankle sprain, likely lateral probably mild to moderate. Not overly concerning. Love his talent. I’d be willing to reach for him.
Jaylen Waddle really struggled to stay healthy in 2023 and the trend has continued. He’s been sidelined with a soft tissue injury, my guess is a hamstring strain. I love him this year but I have concerns about his durability.
Deandre Hopkins suffered a grade 2 MCL sprain, possible injury to the meniscus. This will hold him out until Week 1 and he will be at pretty high risk for reinjury. I have concerns for him this year.
Josh Downs was one of my favorite sleeper picks this year. His high-ankle sprain really sucks, and significantly lowers the love I have for him. I’m not completely hading him but this might be enough to target Adonai Mitchell.
Rashid Shaheed returned today from a hamstring injury. I love him as a WR3 / flex play this year but he does have injury concerns. He will be a big part of this offense if he can stay healthy.
Sam LaPorta quietly suffered a hamstring strain that gives me even more reason to avoid him. I like too many other TEs that have similar upside that are way cheaper.
Hope this was helpful.
